Our first priority as Student Government Officials is to serve the students on campus. While it's easy to fly to a conference or attend a meeting or throw a party, and say we're being representative, that is the opposite of our duty. My personal goal is to come up with realistic solutions for problems afflicting the every day student. We aren't truly representative until we tackle the concerns of the community at large, not just those with the time to seek us out, but the busy, working class students who make up this university.

Why did you choose to attend UMass Boston?

First and foremost, it's close to home. I love the Boston area and couldn't imagine being anywhere else. The world class professors, waterfront views, and fantastic student programming don't hurt, either.

List something that you find most interesting or surprising about UMass Boston?

Honestly, a year into this, I am continually surprised by all there is to offer. Free sailing, the McCormack Greenhouse, the Harbor Art Gallery are just some of the spaces on campus not enough people no about. Beyond that, the students can create a strong presence here through proper programming.

What do you hope to gain from your experience in the Undergraduate Student Senate?

My hope is that I leave UMass Boston knowing I left a positive impact on the community. That one of my initiatives will become tradition, that some of my policies will help guide future student leaders.
